Why we love it

The Benton County Historical Society is a non-profit corporation leading cultural institution in the Willamette Valley, whom operates museum facilities for the preservation of history and culture. Their missions are to preserve the material and intellectual culture of Benton County, Oregon, by acquiring and caring for significant collections that illustrate and interpret the history of the area and its relationship to the world.  They provide a dynamic visitor experience and enrich people’s lives through exhibitions and quality education programs. Their collection includes over 120,000 artifacts including photographs, historical documents, textiles, clothing, domestic arts, farm implements, scientific instruments and personal possessions.  The Historical Society sponsors numerous exhibitions, lectures, educational programs and special events, and offer many opportunities to get involved.

Children and families from Benton County and beyond will find exhibitions, field trips, and family programs at the new Corvallis museum.  For many students, a school field trip is the first museum experience they will have.  There’s simply no digital substitute for the thrill of seeing real museum objects up close and first-hand.  Weekends at the museum will feature hands-on art projects, storytelling in the courtyard, and a chance to look back in time to the early days of county history.

Please enjoy exploring their website which features information about current and past exhibitions and events, interesting sites in Oregon, and many resources to help you delve into our fascinating history or get involved in the Society.
