Sunset Empire Transportation District is hiring full- and part-time bus drivers and a full-time mechanic assistant.

Bus Driver

Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate a bus or van to transport passengers
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections
  • Maintain a clean and orderly vehicle interior
  • Communicate effectively with passengers
  • Provide exceptional customer service
  • Adhere to all traffic laws and regulations while driving.
  • Manage passenger behavior and ensure a safe environment
  • Report any accidents, incidents, or mechanical issues promptly.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Class B CDL with passenger and air brake endorsements
  • Experience as a delivery, van or limo driver or motor coach operator is preferred
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact positively with passengers
  • Excellent customer service skills with a focus on passenger safety and satisfaction
  • Ability to navigate using maps or GPS systems effectively
  • Must pass a background check and drug screening as part of the hiring process
  • Flexibility in working hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays

Mechanic Assistant

Responsibilities:

  • Assist mechanics with routine maintenance, inspections, and minor repairs
  • Remove and replace vaults in buses returning from routes daily
  • Check and maintain fluid levels, tires, lights, and other essential vehicle components
  • Perform oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, and other basic services
  • Help diagnose, troubleshoot and report mechanical issues under supervision
  • Prepare vehicles for inspection, cleaning, and testing after maintenance
  • Keep bays, tools and equipment clean, organized and in safe working condition
  • Maintain inventory of parts, fluids, and supplies; track use and report shortages or needs
  • Assist with proper disposal and cleanup of waste materials such as oil, filters and tires
  • Operate tools, lifts, and equipment safely following shop procedures and training

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two years of related experience
  • Valid driver’s license required; CDL or ability to obtain CDL preferred
